In a 2010 interview with David Letterman, he stated that he was “pushing 400 pounds… somewhere up there.”

Goodman claimed that he had previously fluctuated in weight and could easily lose (or gain) 60 pounds at once. It was not, however, the most healthful cycle. Friends and family advised him to “lighten up” because his massive frame was breaking furniture. Given his dramatic weight loss, Goodman appears to be a suitable candidate for gastric bypass or lap band surgery. However, he never relied on modern treatment to achieve his new look.

He emphasized portion management in numerous interviews; the less he drank, the less he ate till he was in pain. However, he required his trainer, Mackie Shilstone, to assist him discern which foods would be beneficial to him. Shilstone describes the Mediterranean diet as “primarily plant-based, with a decreased intake of red meat, lots of fruits and vegetables, and strongly driven by olive oil.”

He exercise six days a week as well. Goodman encouraged Peter Travers to move and exercise. I can no longer afford to be a couch potato. Regardless of how difficult it is, it motivates me to work. Goodman has shed 100 pounds in weight. Since reprising his role as Dan Conner in 2018, he hasn’t gained any weight. He appears to owe his continuous improvement to the 12-step philosophy.
